» What To Wait From The Next Version?

March 27th, 2008 :: 12 Comments

We are working hard to release new version (2.9) in April. Lots of internal changes done, new shapes included but we are yet to add more features. To show that we’re alive, here are some images rendered in 2.9 beta. As usually: no Photoshop or any other post-processing. Just rendered, saved and posted. Enjoy! … more »

» Most Missed Features

February 12th, 2008 :: 21 Comments

While browsing the Internet I found a review of Box Shot 3D. You may read it here:

http://www.3d-box-shot.com/3d-box-design-software-reviews/box-shot-3d.html

There are some interesting points: from missing desktop icon to author’s “anonymity”. Just want to know what do you think about it?

Maybe you dream about some feature that is currently missed. For example, you may want Undo/Redo¹. Let us know!

¹ Undo/Redo is almost done and will be included in the next release

» Box Shot 3D 2.8

February 3rd, 2008 :: 18 Comments

Beta-testing is over and let me present the new version of Box Shot 3D! We added lots of new features, added new shapes, fixed some bugs and even add some info to the user manual. So you definitely should install and try it :)
What’s new in 2.8:

  • First of all, new shapes (see screenshots section for details):
    • 2 new software boxes added: Panda and F-Secure
    • 2 boxes rebuilded: Simple Software Box and Vista
    • Added new box shape: Tagged Box
    • New detailed hard cover book added
    • Added new “Brochure” shapes. Good for portfolio rendering
    • Several new brochure shapes
  • Now you have more control on the book shapes. For those books that have solid cover image you now can define how much of the image to use on the side of the book and how much to use for front and back. That works for books, opened book and stacks. Give it a try.
  • You can now change a depth of books.
  • Now you can control size of skylight shadow. So if you tired of that big black “stain” on the floor, just decrease “Skylight Spread” slider on the “Environment” tab.
  • Shape selection control was changed from “Office 2007″-like to our custom one. Hope you’ll love it.
  • Now you can create curved 3D images. Good for screenshots or photos.
  • Box Shot 3D draws a progress while preparing detailed image while editing (in the bottom right corner of the window)
  • Box Shot 3D uses 100% CPU while rendering cover (because of raytracing), but if you switch to another application it will release some resources to allow you to do something else.
  • One very good designer finally created cool default cover images for us. If you need something alike - she will be glad to help you. Just drop a line to support@boxshot3d.com .

There are more “lo-level” improvements in the code, but I don’t think it is really interesting for you. So, rules are the same: if you already purchased Box Shot 3D - download and install this update for free. There is no need to uninstall previous one - just install this one, it will take care about older version.

Well, that’s all. Go on and download the latest version!

» Box Shot 3D 2.7: Member cards, command line and more

October 7th, 2007 :: 10 Comments

Well, we finally release it. What’s new:

  • Screenshot shape can be used for member cards and photos, check new options: Corner and Border.
  • Presets are now under user control. Create your own presets and use them when you need. They will not change type of the shape, just camera, lighting and environment.
  • Box Shot 3D now supports command line parameters. Now you can create a batch to render several high-res images while you are sleeping. Details are in user manual.
  • Yes, we’ve finally wrote a user manual with the small FAQ and, possible, a lot of mistakes ;) Feel free to send your corrections.
  • And the last one: Box Shot 3D will try to resize boxes and books according to size of side’s images. It is a very-very-beta feature, so give it a chance.

Eye-catcher:

As always, 2.7 is free for existing customers. As always you can get it here. Now we are sitting at the other side of blog and waiting for reports and suggestions from you.
