Box Shot 3D 3.3.1: The Multiple Shapes And The New Price

May 6th, 2011

After the short public testing and fixing a single issue (related to OS X 10.5), the new version of Box Shot 3D with the multiple shapes feature is officially released. Hooray!

The Multiple Shapes Feature

For those, who doesn’t know the details, this is the very first version of Box Shot 3D that allows to put several shapes to the scene. Now you can render a book with CD, or render several boxes of different editions together. You can put different books in the same stack and so on. It is the most-requested feature of the past year or two and now it is here.

The further plan is to make the scene building easier, as I received a lot of suggestions about this. I am going to add some new shapes as well, so stay tuned.

The New Price

Now the bad news for those, who hasn’t purchased a license yet. As the multiple shapes feature brings Box Shot 3D to a new level of possibilities, the price is increased to $80. I believe that the new feature is worth additional $20.

The price of upgrade from the 2nd version of Box Shot 3D is 50% from the full price, so it also increases from $30 to $40.

The good news is that you’ve got a few days to purchase a license for the old price – $60. The new price will be activated in Monday (9th of May), so you have a 3-days discount. Hurry up!

Finally

Now grab your copy of the latest build and give it a try. Reports and suggestions are welcome as always.

Tim McAlp, in two words – put the new version to another folder or give it another name.

Actually, if you run the 3rd version of Box Shot 3D then they both should work fine until you try to open the new project using the old version of Box Shot 3D.

If you run the 2nd version, you can test the 3rd version in demo mode.

works great! yes renaming a shape would be helpful (e.g. double click on “device” lets you either rename or add an annotation or put a word behind the shape name (e.g. device – frontscreen)

Is there a box for the clear case cds without the dark spine on the left of the cover?

once you click “render” it would be nice to not only move the box shot 3D production window around, but also rescale it. currently I cannot grab and scale that as the pop up “render scene” prevents it… typically i scale it big to work in it, but when I hit “render” i would like to be able and make it smaller again so it does not block my desktop

Still very cheap for the value we get. This app is a timesaver that just got better. Again. Thanks a lot Vitaly!

While I think of it, could I request a Forum where users can share their shapes?

Hi Vitaly, I would ask you some special forums to suggest new shapes, features, minor improvements and bugs, with checkboxes (or something similar), if possible, to tell us what has been fixed or improved, this would be very motivating for us and you.

Thank you very much.

Hi Vitaly, thanks for the great update!

Is there a way to open multiple existing .box3d files into the scene? I only see an external file Add Shape for the .3ds files.

hi vitaly,
I used to render different files and then combine them in photoshop, now I can combine them in boxshot, however, I used to do this trough scripting. is there a way to set an image to a “side” of a certain shape when using e.g. 2 “image” shapes? now boxshot puts only in the first shape the image.
then like “Tim McAlp” said, it would be handy to rename the used shapes.
something like this:

set image “/Users/MyFile.jpg” for side “Image” for shape “shape1″
set image “/Users/MyFileBis.jpg” for side “Image” for shape “shape2″

well, it would be nice :) )

Unfortunately, this version and the multiple shapes feature is only available for Leopard (and above) under Mac OS.
