Regarding the requested features

October 28th, 2010

Thanks to all for the comments to the previous post. Here are some answers:

Multiple shapes in the scene is yet to be added. I hope they will appear in either version 3.2 or 3.3. At least this is the next major thing I am going to do.

You cannot expand the window to the full screen because of raytracing used in the preview mode. It works very slow in the expanded window, so that’s why you can’t do that right now. I am going to rewrite the preview to use OpenGL or some other rendering method that works faster. This may cause the lack of quality shadows in preview, but overall speed will be increased. Of course, the final rendering will use raytracing as before.

Gradients for background is a very interesting idea. Need to think about the implementation, but it is likely to be added soon.

You have requested many new shapes like USB sticks and so on. The upcoming release brings some often-requested shapes and new releases will bring more. However, the main problem of adding new shapes is to provide some sliders to control this or that… I am going to step out of that practice for the new shapes and Box Shot 3D will not automatically fit them according to the images. Instead, the shapes will be designed to use images of specific resolution or aspect ratio. This is not a big problem for most of them, and if I see that some shapes require more control of its parameters, this will be added. That way I will be able to add the new shapes faster.

Mac users need to know that version 3.1 requires at least Leopard to run. Tiger is not supported anymore, as Apple has already announced 10.7 Lion and the number of Tiger visitors of this site is less than 5%. The current version 3.0.4 supports Tiger and it will be available for download as long as it is necessary. Please upgrade your old slow Macs ASAP :)

For those who hasn’t yet followed us on Twitter, here are some images from the upcoming version:

Hi, not sure whether this is already multi-shapes:
I would require the image/screenshot shape have 2 different images.
We are in the mailing and printing business and I often do presentations and it would be great to have an envelope with a standing up image/papersheet like the CD Box with disc. Also a pile of envelopes with a standup-sheet up front would be great.

Thanks,
Marc

I would like it if you would add the nostalgia elements such as Album Covers (LPs) Cassettes and videocassettes to the types of shapes.

Thanks

I would have thought that you can add in text here but not, so what is the point of having this software when you cannot add text.

In that case go to photoshop get some actions and make the real deal, as to me this program is pointless, if you need to go to photoshop in the first place to add text then export it.

Then you shouldnt be in business, people are looking for a “all in one solution” not a one in two solution.

One you need photoshop to add text
two then use our software which costs $$$

So instead of buying this software users would be a 100s better of buying the original

Your whole software model is like a replica of something, and in order for it to work you must have the original

So why waste time with the replica when you could just get the original and be much happier

dean, thanks for the comment.

Actually, there are lots of free graphics editors to just “add a text”, so you don’t need to pay for Photoshop, unless you need all its features.

As for the action scripts, they have their own weak points. I am not going to discuss this here, you should know it yourself.

Finally, a good deal of the customers use both Photoshop, Box Shot 3D and some scripts, depending on the task.

Take care.

Great software!

I’m hoping you’ll add CD digipaks (6-page).

Keep up the good work!

Amazing software!

But I want to apply a watermark in the render.

Thank you.

Finally! Thank you very much for the great work!
Now I miss only transparent surfaces (e.g. for jewel cases)!
