TODO list for version 3.1

October 21st, 2010

Below are some features that I’m either going to add or have already added to the upcoming version 3.1. Perhaps you will suggest something else :)

  • Width and Height parameters for booklet, brochure, image and stack of images shapes
  • Scale sliders in the Transformation page (useful for changing the size of imported 3DS files)
  • Faster loading of CMYK and grayscale images on Mac
  • Automatic checking for updates
  • More folds in vertical booklets
  • A hard cover book shape with flat spine
  • Some new shapes – will be shown a bit later

Some items are already implemented, some are yet to be added, but I am going to release 3.1 in the first days of November.

I can add something else, if it can be done quite fast, so do not hesitate to ask in comments :)

Couple of things that I think quite a few Graphics Pros would like:

* Clipping Paths, is it possible for these to added to the exported file?

* If no Clipping Paths, how about having a choice of Alpha Channels one with and without shadows (often I find that I have to run two versions one with and one without the shadows, an alpha channel without the shadows would be a time saver).

* A parameter to adjust the pinch on hardbacks (some hardback books have a huge pinch near the spine some don’t).

* Support to enter the millimetre dimensions of an item, I find that to make something fit the default setups I have to halve the millimetre amounts so for a book that is 240mm high I enter 120.

* Support for a shelf so that you can setup a Book or a cup on a shelf or desk edge?

* Shapes: Flag, Banner, USB stick, Pen, Pencil, Tape Casette and Case, Classic Sweet packet shapes?

That’s all I can think of at the moment… If I had to choose one it would be the Channels :)

Cheers,

Glen

Hi thanks for continuing to develop a great product, just got work to buy a couple of licenses. It confused purchasing when they couldn’t work out how to specify a Mac and Windows version :)

The one thing I would really love to have on all shapes with pages, including brochures, is the ability to define a page curl – angle corner, curl amount and distance. This would add so much value to what I’m trying to do.

Glen, I like the USB stick and bookshelf idea, a folder shape could be very useful too.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,
Being a print media designer. There are many more things I want from this great product. But on priority list are:
1. Support for multiple shapes. To display a catalog cover and inside spread on a same plane; and to display a packaging box from 2 or 3 different angles.
2. More shapes. As mentioned by Glen, I would like to add more shapes like jars, bottles, folded newspaper or magazine, cosmetic packaging items like tubes, shampoo bottles etc. Also to combine two different shapes to display a tube with its packaging box etc.
3. Ability to adapt shapes. This can be extremely extremely helpful in packaging. If I can call image with mask or path and the shape of the box can be adapted from that path. I think this might be difficult but would love to see it one day.
Best
Harpreet

Something that would be useful for me is a software type box or a folder with multiple CDs in front of it, either lying down or standing up. Currently I have to do this manually in Xara Designer Pro, but it would be nice to be able to do it all within BoxShot 3D.

Possibility to work on the background:

In Scene Tab >> Background image

Add the possibilitry, like with other images to “Reload” “Crop” “Fit background to Image”

Add the possibility to add “flexible” Color Gradient background (with both meanings of the word “flexible”…)

I see you already covered the additional folds on the standing brochure, which would be great for me. :)

I would like more magazine shapes and perhaps newspapers or folded tabloids. I have long wanted the interface to be expandable to fill my monitor screen.

I thank God. Finally, a friend of mine helped purchased the software. I’m waiting for Plimus approval and start enjoying one of the important software of all time. It saves time, money and lots in achieving one’s goal. I’ll be happy if we can have something like paper package, tube (toothpaste), Coffee Cup (Starbucks), Bottled water (plastic), Bottle (Coca Cola).

Thank you so much for this amazing software.

Hi there

I have created a bottle in 3D which I would like to use. Can I import it myself or could you add it to the software?

Best Regards
Johan Niklasson

It would be very helpful to be able to set a rotation of covers to use in a stack or fan.

This would make it much easier to promote a series of items – for example, the book on top of a stack of books would be a great way to offer the latest title in a series of books that are also sold.

Or if you are trying to sell a bundle of books in a series – it would be great to be able to show them in stacks, fans, etc.

I’d like to be able to see the front of a business card while stacking the reverse. Some clear models like plastic bottles and containers would be great too. Finally, multiple folds (horizontal and vertical) will be appreciate.

Thanks for your good work!

I would like to be able to rotate a fanned stack.

For instance, Business Cards fan out along it’s long edge, it would be great if we could rotate so that it fans out along the short edge.

Thanks to all for the comments. Some answers are given in the upcoming post. As for business cards, Ron, it seems that you can do that by rotating the source image by 90 degrees. Quick and dirty ;)

Cardboard shipping box can be done using the Software Box shape, by selecting the box with hard edges and opening it.

I’d love to see a stack of DVD boxes. I’d also like to make a row of DVD boxes, our software (7 pieces)boxes have a spine design that when you purchase them all, you have a nice design when put together in a row.

I’d love to create that by merging Box Shot 3D files.
