Box Shot 3D 2.13.3

April 5th, 2010

This is a bugfix release showing that I am still alive :)

The following problems were fixed:

  • Object instances were not imported from 3DS files
  • [Windows] Box Shot 3D didn’t open projects from network paths
  • [Mac] There were some problems with file opening dialogs and folder navigation
  • [Mac] Rendering crashed with timer-related errors
Not very much, but I am currently busy with lot of things both related to Box Shot 3D and not. As usual, please send here your requests or wishes, so I will know what you really need.

Hi Vitaly
Hopefully by the end of the year we may see some stacked business cards, just like Cap2.
Take a peek:
http://i27.tinypic.com/2mgtb8z.png
Im guessing you already seen these..be nice tho if Boxshot had most these options built in, especially the business cards;O)
with the added specular map options, the cards can have nice textures just like the real thing be sweet.

Would love to see the option to render multiple boxes in one go. So you can make nice arrangement of different packagings.

Hi!

First of all: thanks for your great produkt!

Things I would love for you to update:
1) Be able to place the spiral at the top of the “Binder”. Just like its already possible with the “Spiral Bounded Book”
- and maybe even to be able to determine the amount of spirals the Binder/Book has

2) Be able to open up a Hardcoverbook with Jacket. Even if it is non-customizable like the “Soft Cover: Opened” one

3) For the “Book On The Floor”:
- Hardcover with Dust-Jacket
- Be able to customize the thickness (Amount of Pages) and Format (height/width) of the Book.

Once again, thanks for your great work and making this Produkt even better, step-by-step!

drpepa, I’ll think about it. Perhaps I’ll add this in the future releases.

Rogier, this is scheduled to the third version of Box Shot 3D, but it is quite hard to say when it will be ready.

betpm:
1. You may use transformation feature to rotate binder. Concerning amount of spirals it is now depend on the height of shape.
2. Are you sure that you need uncustomizable shape? Perhaps you can import your own 3DS file and use it?
3. I’ll add book on the floor with dust jacket, but I am not sure about thickness. Concerning width and height – it is possible to change them in the “Book on the floor” shape.

Sylvain, Box Shot 3D allows transparency for a few shapes and not for any surface. For example, select a “Software box” shape, check “Show CD” option and go to the “Images” page. Then pick “CD Front” side, load image with transparency and check the “Use Transparency” box. You will get what you want.

Hi Vitaly

One feature that I’d really love to see (though imagine it could be difficult to implement and make it easily usable) would be to allow multiple objects in one image. – i.e. I would like to be able to stack 3 or 4 different books together – preferably in different arrangements.
At the moment I’m doing this by making separate renders and putting them together in Photoshop – doable, but far from ideal.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Vitaly!

A detail that all expected to see implemented in Box Shot 3D is the possibility of creating stapled Magazines. My specific request is including a Shape so-called “Magazine” once the shape was based on “Book” which would include only the Type: “Opened”, “Slightly opened” and “Completely close”.
These magazines usually contain between 6 and 15 long sheets bent in half and stapled usually with two hooks. ( 6 long sheets are equivalent to 12 normal sheets or 24 pages). The cover and the back side have the same type of paper of the interior.
Suggested options:
1. Showing staples? Yes / Not
2. Quantity of sheets ( long ): ______

I hope that you can implemented this enhanced as soon as possible. Thank you very mucho for your valuable effort.

Hello Vitaly

In Shapes Book on the floor
It would be excellent if may include him the option of specifying the width of the back of the book ( Depth )

Thanks again!

Cheers Vitaly
cant wait, look forward to seeing them added. Every business and every designer has a business card. Every branding project we do here at the studio we find new ways to display the stationary. The client always loves seeing their logo details on stacked business cards we use coveractionpro2 for them currently.

Hi Vitaly
Thanks for doing this upgrade! I was wondering, since you welcome ideas, whether it will be possible in the future releases of Box Shot 3D to include rulers – similar to Photoshop? I think this is a functionality which will benefit everyone. Just a thought. Cheers James

Hej Vitaly,

it would be great to have a possibility to choose a picture for the Floor.

HI Vitaly,

First of all… amazing product for the price!!! really impressed by the result and the flexibility… I’ve been playing a bit with the software and read all the forums on the updates… right now didn’t come accross something that I wouldn’t be able to do except for one thing.
For the DVD Box, I just did for a client a DVD box (Digipack style) – It’s the size of a CD box. but looks like that…
4 panels:

6 panels:
http://www.hellmanpromomedia.com/image/cd-digipak-6-lg.jpg
Would be great to able to change the height and width also… Creativity requires doing different Packaging styles…
But apart from that… really a WOW product!!!

Luis, this will be added in the next release (perhaps not all and not exactly as you described)

James Smith, I can’t imagine where and why you may need rulers in Box Shot 3D. Please contact me by e-mail with more details about them.

Pèter, placing image to the floor requires plenty of additional options, so this will be probably added a bit later, when the user interface will be ready for that.

Noulzy, I’ll think about changing the height of DVD boxes in the future versions. Concerning the custom shapes, the only way to make everyone happy is to use “External File” shape with your own 3DS files.

Thanks a lot for your reply Vitaly… Cool for DVD boxes. I have not tried the 3DS external file yet, not too sure where to get these files. Are there websites where you can buy such models?

I have 2 other suggestions:
Magazine/brochure style: Maybe a brochure with 8 or 12 pages (which is thin).. but I can’t see anywhere where to change the thickness of the magazine (no of pages)

Envelopes? Maybe have some envelopes with standard sizes A4, A5, DL (maybe these could be fit shape to image) and then have 2 different back flaps (flat and triangular – on side or at the top). The on rendering it would show one envelope standing and then a few on the floor with one showing the back.

Noulzy, thanks for the suggestions. I am going to add magazine shapes in the future versions. The rest is saved in my TODO-list.

As for 3DS files, there are lot of free and commercial files in the Internet (google for “download 3DS files”). And finally, if you can’t find what you need, it is not a problem to hire a freelancer to make a file for you. Shapes like magazines and DVD-boxes shouldn’t cost a lot.

The only thing I would ask is to somehow speed this thing up. A 64-bit Mac version would be ideal.

The image that is wrapped around the 3d object does not show well in the preview window. I.e. the default preview only shows some yellow/green and white colors… when I load my own it’s not much better.

I am using Windows 7.
