Stacks

October 28th, 2009

One of the most common question you sent to support was “How to resize books in stack?” The most common answer was: sorry, it is impossible. Well, starting from 2.13 you will be able to do some customization.

First of all, you will be able to change the number of books (as always click thumbnails to see the full-sized images):

You may twist it a bit:

Or add some disorder:

You may put a book on top, rotate it, twist stacked books and so on:

And do the other pretty things like this one:

Questions And Answers

Q: Is it possible to adjust size of books?
A: Yes, you can adjust width, height and depth of books exactly as you do with generic book shape.

Q: Is it possible to use different cover image for each book?
A: No, all books have the same cover.

Q: What can I stack?
A: Any closed book: two hard cover books and two books with soft cover.

Q: How many books can I stack?
A: You can stack up to 10 books.

Q: Does it render fast?
A: Nope… The more books you use, the more you wait.

Q: What can I put on top?
A: Any adjustable book with hard or soft cover: two hard cover books and four soft cover books.

Q: Can I put opened hard-cover book on top?
A: No, you can’t. This book cannot be adjusted, so it cannot be used in new stacks.

Q: Can I still use the old stacks?
A: Yes, you can. Old stacks and opened hard-cover book can be found under the new “Fixed Books and Stacks” shape.

I bet that I answered the most of your questions, but you are welcome to ask something else :)

I’m loving all the great new features, but I’d rather see fewer features with more frequent releases. That way all of us overly eager customers can take advantage of features incrementally. Don’t get me wrong, I love you, man, and it’s great to see all these new features for a single point release!, and I know you’re working your tail off for all of us. But I want to start using what you have! Even half of the features you’re planning on would be awesome.

I’m sorry. I’m just being an impatient prat. But maybe giving us fewer features with faster release cycles is a win-win for you and us.

I still think this could have been a paid upgrade. But we get it for free. :) I ‘m happily looking forward to it. This is a nice and welcome addition for me. Thanks!

He’s right, this is upgrade worthy. If you’re not going to charge for it, you should pop a Donations button up on your site when you release this. I know I’d donate for an upgrade that does all these things.

Absolutely awesome! I love the disordered stacks. Being a software developer too I know how hard it is to estimate these things but do you have an estimated release date?
