New Shapes In 2.9

April 3rd, 2008

Actually, there will be two new shapes: spiral-bounded book and CD in envelope. Both shapes have some parameters to adjust and you will be able to create something like this:

spiral-book-1.jpg

spiral-book-2.jpg

envelope-1.jpg

envelope-2.jpg

Just want you to take a look to the shadow casted by the spiral. That’s why raytracing kicks any other method of 3d images creation. It takes more time, but it gives realistic results for any shape.

The spiral-bound looks great. Will there be any options to use a tighter spiral vs. the more open spiral being shown? Can we adjust the width and color of the spirals? If not, perhaps having more than one type of spiral binding might be helpful.

“Real-life” spiral-bound manuals that are made in office stores are never silver. They are almost always darker in color.

Silver spiral-bound only exists with blank notebook paper and the like in office supply stores.

Regarding the CD envelope, I want to point out that some CD envelope sleeves are simply solid with no see-through window. Perhaps you can create a version which has no see-through window.

I think you are doing a great job improving the base program. I am quite convinced this software will quickly take the lead over the competitors as they have rested on their current achievements and do not seem to be actively improving the software.

Spiral can be colored (and even textured) as any other part of shape. But you can’t change it’s shape. Maybe we’ll let this in the later versions.

And yes, there will be the version of envelope without “window”.

BoxShot3D is simply awesome. New shapes are also really great! Thanks a lot for all the time you take to support and maintain your software.

It’s true that being able to load and bundle rendered images would be a +.

I wish you had an affiliate program or something like that :-)

great new shapes :) are you planning on doing more shapes for all the graphic uses?
i mean something like a box of orange juice, milk, chocolate, pasta bag… some shapes can be done with a simple box, but for example it would be nice to have the shapes specific for a juice box or a pasta bag, for example:

we have a big wishlist for shapes. at every new release we try to add something new, but the list grows much faster. among this we have list of features we are yet to implement. when the second list will be finished we’ll probably start implementing soda cans, juice boxes and other rarely-used shapes.

or we’ll just add “import 3DS” feature :)

great new shapes, can’t wait for the new release. :D if possible, it would be great if the new version also add another new shapes like paperbag, bottles, soda can, or even (table and wall) calendars.

I agreed with MatthewC 100%:
“This software will quickly take the lead over the competitors as they have rested on their current achievements and do not seem to be actively improving the software.”

well done!

As a customer of 2.8, is it possible to get a beta version to do some testings?
I am a big user of 3d action scripts and have a lot of ecover needs :-)

Since you have problems with Final Rendering only, it seems that the problem is not in Windows Vista. Most “final rendering problems” usually caused by incorrect registration data. Drop us a line using contacts form, we’ll send you a small patch that will revert the software to demo mode.

Hello… It’s just me or the spiral binding looks a bit flat, unrealistic? Perhaps it’s just me but the spirals does not seems to get away of the cover, make its turns up and then back to finally return to the next hole in the back cover. I’m talking about the second image. It could be the angle of the viewpoint though… However, nice piece of software! I’m still in 2.7 so as soon as it get released I’ll download it.

Thanks a lot ofr your efforts.

Hi,

I agree with Williams Castillo on spiral binding.

It looks a little weird.

It should look a lot better if the spiral ends at the BACK cover. The current one looks like there is a missing piece or something like that.

Thanks,
Volkan

Spiral is completely 3D, no fakes or plain images. Maybe it just looks weird a bit, but as for me - it is OK.
I agree, that the spiral should end on the back cover, this will be fixed.

If I make, in version 2.8, shots with “cover stack shapes” the top of the standing book is always cut off in the default setting. I can only make it visible when I move it a little bit. Why is the top not showing in the default setting? Can it be fixed in version 2.9?

Hmm, you right. We’ll fix this.
Thank you.

Hei

I just finished my first project with Box Shot 3D.
Every thing is great, but the final rendering is toooo slow, i put 4 computers to render, i had 10 boxes. just colored boxes with text:)
It took 2000×2000px intel core duo 1 hour to make one box, and 3000×3000 it took 3hour on my 2xamd to make one box.

I made patch, this great:). but in the morning when i have to make one change to one box, this was terrible, couse i have to wait a hour.

Is there any change, to check the rendering code to make it faster, or somekind of trick.

superb program:)))))

Rendering speed is the price for image quality. We do ours best to improve the speed, but raytracing with advanced lighting will never be a fast thing.

You may try a lower quality, maybe it will be OK for higher resolutions.
