What To Wait From The Next Version?

March 27th, 2008

We are working hard to release new version (2.9) in April. Lots of internal changes done, new shapes included but we are yet to add more features. To show that we’re alive, here are some images rendered in 2.9 beta. As usually: no Photoshop or any other post-processing. Just rendered, saved and posted. Enjoy!

We’ll publish more images soon, stay tuned.

The main target platform for Box Shot 3D is Windows XP, but we didn’t receive any reports for problems with Windows Vista. It works with it.

hello :) i just discovered this software and i’m thinking about buying it.
One thing that it seems missing is the possibility to change the size of the magazine form (for example i want to make a render of a square-size folder i’m doing).

Magazine & Brochures shapes adjust themselves by the image you assign. That’s why there is no size controls for them. Just try to play with it - you will see the result.

Awesome work!

What about multi DVD/CD packages? You know, there are DVD-Cases around that can hold up to 4 single DVDs. And will the next version include a closed DVD Case standing beside a DVD (or 1 Casebeside more DVDs) (instead of the opened one in the example pictures above). Just like you did with the CD-Case in next blog entry.
So it will look like [] OOOO (should show one closed DVD Case beside 4 DVDs…:)

another question, would it be possible to have a combination of elements on one image? for example a dvd, a catalogue and a brochure? if not, for the brochure it will be nice to have two on one image, so you can show the back of it on one image.

Also, if i buy now the 2,8, will i get the 2,9 upgrade, or should i wait for the 2,9 to be out? :)

first of all, version 2.9 will be free for all users of 2.8, 2.7 etc.

next, the combinations. we do not want create new shapes for every possible combination, it seems that we will allow to put several objects to the scene and move them around. but this will not be implemented in 2.9, maybe it will not be implemented in 2.10 too, because we have some plans for one major “feature” for 2.10.

but we will definitely allow to use several shapes in one scene. and we will do ours best to allow it ASAP.

thats good to hear that :) i’ve just bought the program and i’m playing with it.
rendering times are looooong when you go on more than 800×600 (anyway, why you can’t specify the size of your render?), and that it would be good to have a “render queue”, for example you save 10 files to render, then for the night you run a “batch” so it load all the scenes of a folder and saves images in the same folder.

what do you mean by the “size of your render”? did you talk about resolution? it is possible to adjust it, more you can set a low quality just to see how it will look like.

Box Shot 3D doesn’t have render queue, but it allows to use command line parameters. There is a chapter in the user manual that describes how to setup batch rendering. You can even create simple animations :)

it’s ok for the size, i found it :) as for the render queue, maybye you can do it with command lines but for the simple mortal maybye it’s too complicated, a “wizard” function will be really good

we have some kind of “render master” in our plans, but we have lots of things to do among this. so, we’ll finally create something to help simple mortals, but this will take a while

who knows, maybe somebody will make some money by creating and selling such wizard ;)
