Most Missed Features

February 12th, 2008

While browsing the Internet I found a review of Box Shot 3D. You may read it here:

http://www.3d-box-shot.com/3d-box-design-software-reviews/box-shot-3d.html

There are some interesting points: from missing desktop icon to author’s “anonymity”. Just want to know what do you think about it?

Maybe you dream about some feature that is currently missed. For example, you may want Undo/Redo¹. Let us know!

¹ Undo/Redo is almost done and will be included in the next release

I don’t agree with the review comment “I’m sure this level of anonymity isn’t helpful to an independent software vendor”. As an independent software vendor I’ve found Boxshot 3D to provide support and feature upgrades in a faster and more ‘helpful’ manner than most other software companies I have to deal with. Keep up the excellent work!

I would have to say that I was initially concerned with the “anonymity” but once I realize how well the software worked, how quickly you replied to questions and responded, and being protected with a credit card purchase, I got past it.

All I care is about good software and good support even if I don’t know the company or person’s name.

I would say that there are no complaints. However, enhancements can always be added. Such as rendering speed could be faster or the screen refresh could be faster.

One competitor had some shapes that had a CD or DVD disc in front of a CD or DVD case. That would be very nice if it could be included in a future update.

From what I can see, it will not be long before BoxShot3D will become the leading program once all the little improvements have been incorporated.

Keep those revisions and updates coming. Even if they are incremental, they still matter to us.

Just about to buy this :-) but I would like to see the ability to alter the depth of books in the stack mode. We have 2 books of different number of pages and the standard size misrepresents the slimmer book.

I would be nice a Mac version of this software :)
And also the possibility of addind textures to the book surfaces.

By the way it takes too long to render in coparision to True Box Shot.

What do you mean by adding textures to the book surfaces? Separate image for each side? It is already possible, but not for all type of books. We are yet to implement this.

True Boxshot like other “boxshot”-software uses completely different approach to create 3D-covers. That gives completely different results, but gives them quick.

I’m also just about to purchase.

I would like a few more box types and variants, like open DVD cover. Open CD Cover. A ring bound report.

And how about something for MP3 covers.

Otherwise, I think a great product.

PS: If you can add MP3′s quickly it will help me for a new product I’m about to launch ;-)

Regards
Dave

Also it would be nice to have thick DVD Case boxes…

Our shapes wishlist becomes longer and longer… That’s fine, actually. One thing: when you ask for some shape – give a link to the picture.

Now I’m sitting and trying to understand what is MP3 Cover. Google Image search doesn’t help.

I love the product. I would like to see many cds lying flat as if sitting on a desk. If you look around at some of the sales stuff, especially in Clickbank, you find this image of a TON ‘O CDs, you know, all piled up or rather laid out flat like cards. this creates the wide-eyed effect in customers, you know, that thinking that, heck, this is a LOT of stuff here. I’d like to see such an image in an update. Thanks, Beau

You guys wanted to see a picture of what I mean. I created a site and created this effect MANUALLY, and I mean, ay caramba, or however you spell it. Meaning, it took me a loooong time. Anyway, thanks again for the product, and here’s the site: http://www.nicheartproduct.com

I’d like to see a DVD case opened so you can see part of the black case at the rear, also a spiral book cover — see examples from another software creator at: http://i27.tinypic.com/21brnzd.jpg. The DVD case I mean is directly above the spiral cover example. Would be good too in a CD case to have a similar “opened” look…. the way you’d open a DVD or CD case to make them stand up easier on a table.

I agree with the open cd and dvd cases…But I would also like to see the option of mixing and matching the various shapes. For example I created the box/cd’s near the bottom of this page http://www.viralmoneylist.com and had to use xara 1 to duplicate the cd so I had 3, then to make the shadows look somewhat proper used the transparent tool to drop the shadow back because of the overlap showing in front of the cd in front of it, but couldn’t quite get it right. I use Real Draw from mediachance for the graphics, good priced software, although it too has some limitations, and to compile the final pic, which you see on that page. It would be nice to eliminate all those steps….see below.

Being able to do this in one go, adding the graphic to each additional shape, then being able to independently move each one around. Might be impossible in this incarnation….dunno, you would know best. But this would be the ultimate step for evolution and then utilizing the batch files for commandline, you get frames showing the data-default side of the cd’s, the other side being the graphic and also around the box [all at once of course, not independently], or whatever shapes had been added….great video material.

I also saw somewhere someone asking about adding additional shapes like spray cans, etc….I too think that would be great, including Glass glasses, cups, bowl shapes, etc..

The one shape I would like to see the most is a stack of paper, and/or individual piece of paper with a transparency setting. This way, you could stand a sheet of paper say in front/off to the right side slightly – and sort of see the edge of a box or whatever shape is behind it.

I find nothing wrong with the render speed, it seems fairly reasonable for the fine balance you have between render quality and final drive size of the images, although I do wish you could up the quality just a hair in lue of render speed, as I find the images bordering on edgy along angles. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Anyway….not knowing who you are is not an issue to me. I am using the software and I am very happy because you seem to have found that great balance between super high quality and total simplicity of use….absolutely genius! Knowing your name will not change the functionality of the software or the ease of which it is to use….Stay anonymous and rest easy at night, I kinda think it is more fun this way anyhow.

I Agree the the anonymity will HURT your business online. People deserve to know the names of people they are doing business with. I’ve been marketing online for over 6 years now and there is not doubt in my mind that even if people only care about the products they are less likely to do business with you if you hide behind a shade.

But maybe you don’t want to make more money.

I got an AMD Athlon with 2,2 GHz and can’t render any Box/Book!

The cooler of my cpu goes up and the machine shutdowns after ~5 minutes…

I know that rendering eats many cpu-power… but also if chosen only “Quality=1″ it shut downs .-(

I think your software is great. I agree with some feature requests like:

[+] ring bound report

and one that I would add, how about a design of iPod, for MP3 and mobile videos.

I would love to promote this to my readers. Update me on the two features…

We’ll add spiral bounded book in the next release. With several new shapes. I hope it will be in April.

iPod… interesting. You want an iPod shape and ability to put something to it’s screen? Added to shapes wishlist.

After trying it out for several books and boxes I bought the full version yesterday. I must say that I am very impressed with the possibilities of this software. Especially the many types of books (with stacks) and boxes are exactly what I was looking for.

I have just one tip for the next release. Could there be an estimated time to render the full picture before it starts. I know it takes a long time to make a sharp and large rendering but I have started a 4000×4000 rendering of a stack of books and it has been going for just over 10 hours now and still it isn´t finished. If I had known how long it would take I might have chosen different size or would have planned to render it on a better moment.

Thanks for the great software. I will recommend it to all my friends. In fact, I already did.

Talking about anonymity, I started to see some names in the Help file. I think it won’t hurt to put those on your website too.

Most missed feature: Adjusting the opening gap for soft cover books. Our books are less flexible than they now apear. Adjusting the gap so it would open up less, would solve this.

I bought BoxShot3D for a couple of years ago and I’m absolutely thrilled with all features constantly added! How about adding a T-shirt shape?

Will likely purchase soon, but it would be nice to be able to define different book covers for each item in the stack if you want. I’d love to use a stack or fan of books to display a series or bundle product promo banner, and right now I have to fake it with alternate camera angles, different renders, and photoshop.
