Box Shot 3D 2.8

February 3rd, 2008

Beta-testing is over and let me present the new version of Box Shot 3D! We added lots of new features, added new shapes, fixed some bugs and even add some info to the user manual. So you definitely should install and try it :)

What’s new in 2.8:

  • First of all, new shapes (see screenshots section for details):
    • 2 new software boxes added: Panda and F-Secure
    • 2 boxes rebuilded: Simple Software Box and Vista
    • Added new box shape: Tagged Box
    • New detailed hard cover book added
    • Added new “Brochure” shapes. Good for portfolio rendering
    • Several new brochure shapes
  • Now you have more control on the book shapes. For those books that have solid cover image you now can define how much of the image to use on the side of the book and how much to use for front and back. That works for books, opened book and stacks. Give it a try.
  • You can now change a depth of books.
  • Now you can control size of skylight shadow. So if you tired of that big black “stain” on the floor, just decrease “Skylight Spread” slider on the “Environment” tab.
  • Shape selection control was changed from “Office 2007″-like to our custom one. Hope you’ll love it.
  • Now you can create curved 3D images. Good for screenshots or photos.
  • Box Shot 3D draws a progress while preparing detailed image while editing (in the bottom right corner of the window)
  • Box Shot 3D uses 100% CPU while rendering cover (because of raytracing), but if you switch to another application it will release some resources to allow you to do something else.
  • One very good designer finally created cool default cover images for us. If you need something alike – she will be glad to help you. Just drop a line to support@boxshot3d.com .

There are more “lo-level” improvements in the code, but I don’t think it is really interesting for you. So, rules are the same: if you already purchased Box Shot 3D – download and install this update for free. There is no need to uninstall previous one – just install this one, it will take care about older version.

Well, that’s all. Go on and download the latest version!

Looks great! Thank you.

One question: When will BoxShot 3D make use of more than one CPU?

We’ll take a look at those black line. That was fixed in 2.7 about a month ago. Do you use the latest version now?

I will test it again tonight (GMT+1 here) and inform you via Email, if i encounter this Issue again. Thank you.

Almost all images in our “screenshots” section were rendered in Box Shot 3D 2.8 (some – in 2.7). We rendered twice more while our internal testing. No black lines at all. So if you will catch one – send it to us, we’ll take care.

Aha! Three cups of coffee finally did the job! No more black lines now.
Those lines appeared under the heavy load of CPU on the complex shapes like laying brochures.

Please download updated version of Box Shot 3D from our site.
Thanks for reporting the bug.

May I ask you to browse to Program Files\Box Shot 3D, then right-click to BoxShot3D.exe, then “Properties”, “Version”.
If there will be 2.8.0.1 – please send us your project to support@boxshot3d.com, we’ll use some coffee to investigate the problem.

BoxShot 3D on FileForum: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1137153737/1

Rate it a FIVE, if you are a happy customer, like me.
I know, the black line Issue (which occurs very rare), will soon be fixed and this “issue” could not prevent me from rating it 5.

Thank you

BTW: You should add Vista to your compatibility List on FileForum. It runs perfect here on Vista Home Premium. ;)

This piece of software is simply amazing. This latest version upgrade is tremendous. The shapes really enhances the flexibility of this product that continues to pay for itself over and over.

Keep on improving and the word of mouth will be so strong, this software might become dominant in its field!

I also appreciate the excellent responses when I write in. It shows you care about your customers.

A super add-on would be to render animations. Any plans in that direction?

There is a section is user manual that describes how to render a spinning box. That’s not easy, actually, but it is possible.

First of all: do you use the latest version downloaded from our site? If not – please uninstall it, download the latest version, install it and try again.

If this will not help, check your registration form (“File” tab, then “Registration” button). Since you’re trying demo – it has to be empty. If you have troubles with cleaning it – contact us via our form, we’ll help you.
